The beginning

Being a young child that was victimized - I painfully became a person barely surviving that struggled until I was a thriver. I truly thought my childhood was like other normal middle class families. I had a mother, a father, siblings, friends, played sports, ate picnics, went on vacations, celebrations on holidays, enjoyed church events and even bedtime stories being read by a sex offender. I knew the verbal abuse played over and over in my young mind more than the physical pain lasted. In the early 80’s I saw my friends with bruises from parents.

I was 10 when things started to shift and I had my harsh reality exposed. Bedtime stories combined with molestation and the occasional adult genitalia exposure dramatically turned into being raped multiple times a week. I had so much guilt and shame that was being driven by the threats that filled me with fear that I buried my voice. Finally, after 9 years of abuse I found the courage to expose my step father- a blind eye was turned by the people that should have protected me amd ensured it was stopped. 35 years later faced with putting my husband in prison for his sexual crimes against my child I was capable of the horror my own mother was forced to hear. I defended my child, but was faced with a harsh that someone needs to be the voice for the children that are not heard.
